The Jo Ann Bland Legacy in Action Scholarship

Presented by Foot Soldiers Park

Each year four (4) scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to Selma City and Dallas County high school students.

Honoring the legacy of Foot Soldiers like Ms. Jo Ann Bland, this scholarship invests in the next generation of young changemakers. It is awarded to students who are direct descendants of 1965 Foot Soldiers and are actively carrying forward the fight for racial justice, equity, and truth.

This is more than a financial award—it’s a launchpad for civic leadership, community organizing, and future movement-building.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a graduating senior from Selma City and Dallas County School Systems
Be a direct descendant of a 1965 Foot Soldier
Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and upload a transcript with your application
Have been accepted to a 2- or 4-year college, university, or accredited post-secondary program
Submit a 1–2 minute video (prompt in application)
