5th Annual
Still We Rise Juneteenth Celebration!
Join us for our yearly commemoration of Black Americans’ emancipation from slavery.

A day to remember and reflect on our liberation
On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Texas and informed enslaved Black people that the Civil War had ended and that all slaves were officially free, marking the effective end of slavery in the U.S. Join us as we celebrate this day of freedom, reflection and African American culture and history.
Pre-Juneteenth
Juneteenth Oratorical Contest
May 6, 2026 | 9:30am at Selma High School
This event is not open to the public but it will be live-streamed. Join here the day of the event.
There’s nothing more powerful than a young person who knows their history and isn’t afraid to speak it. Our annual public speaking competition invites 11th and 12th graders from across Selma Dallas County, pairing each student with an award-winning coach as they research, write and deliver an original speech on Black history. Winners will share their speeches at our June 19th event – don’t miss it!
